Preventing Violence and Advancing Gender Equity

Released 04/05/2017

The ACT Government is supporting projects to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of ACT women.

$134,855 will be allocated through the Women’s Grants Program to support individuals, organisations and community groups for innovative projects to improve the lives of ACT women.

In line with the priorities of the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-26 and the ACT Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Strategy 2011-2017, the funding will assist in targeted measures to prevent violence and improve outcomes for women who are at heightened disadvantage.

One grant recipient – Non’D’Script – will deliver an innovative feature film that tells the story of a women’s AFL team and the positive impact sport can have on the health and wellbeing of women.

The Women’s Legal Centre ACT and Region and Care Inc. and Financial Counselling Service will jointly manage a pilot program addressing financial abuse. Through this project, financial counselling and family law advice will be provided to women experiencing economic abuse and financial hardship as a result of domestic and family violence.

The ACT Government continues its commitment to women and girls through supporting innovative programs that advance gender equality, address violence against women and empower women to succeed.

Unallocated funds from the grants process will go towards work aligned with the First Action Plan of the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-17. The First Action Plan was launched to coincide with International Women’s Day and is structured around two priorities – women’s equity and wellbeing and women’s physical and mental health.
