Curtin Primary School Upgrades Modernising Learning and Work Spaces

Released 25/07/2017

Today I visited Curtin Primary School to officially open the new capital upgrades works, which refurbished many learning and work areas in the school.

The new refurbishment works have delivered contemporary and comfortable learning, work and shared spaces around the school, and created a welcoming environment for students and staff to be challenged and engaged.

We know there are many aspects to quality learning and teaching, and providing new modernised spaces can assist in creating a functional and effective environment which is beneficial to learning.

Some classrooms have been reinvigorated with new paint, carpet, lighting and ceilings for a fresh new look, while others have opened up to become shared spaces with sliding partitions, allowing the flexibility to make larger spaces for team teaching, cooperative learning, and a variety of other open learning activities.

Staff now have access to an inspiring ‘Teacher Learning Space’ and an upgraded staffroom. The staff and students’ bathrooms have been refurbished, and the school canteen has been expanded into a new state-of the-art facility.

There has also been a transformation in the administration, school reception and workrooms creating a modern and inviting look. New heating and cooling has also been installed too.

The cost of the capital works at Curtin Primary School totalled around $2.7 million and fulfilled another ACT Government budget commitment. I am proud to be part of a government that is dedicated to upgrading and modernising our public schools, and the works at Curtin Primary School are no exception.

I am glad that Curtin Primary School’s vision of creating a welcoming school.
