$180,000 funding for the Women’s Grants Program

Released 25/07/2017

Applications are now being accepted for the ACT Women’s Grants Program 2016-2017 which provides funding for initiatives aimed at improving the safety, status and lives of women and girls in the ACT.

If you or your organisation has an innovative idea or proposal to assist women in the community to feel safe, respected and to reach their full potential, you should apply, with $180,000 in grants available.

Priority will be given to initiatives which address violence against women or the broad range of factors which impact on women’s health and wellbeing.

The ACT Government is committed to achieving gender equality and ensuring that women in our community have the freedom and capacity to succeed. That is why we launched the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-26 in August this year. The ACT Women’s Plan is a 10-year plan to enhance the economic status, social inclusion, safety and wellbeing of ACT women, particularly groups of women subject to multiple layers of discrimination.

Gender equality is everyone’s business and everyone can be part of the solution. We understand that great ideas sometimes require financial backing. The ACT Women’s Grants Program is just one way the ACT Government can assist.

Projects can include early intervention initiatives which engage the private sector, or projects which educate and challenge long-held community attitudes which have a negative impact on women, or possibly projects which address the gender related health issues such as cardiovascular disease or obesity. All proposals will be considered.

The ACT Women’s Grants Program provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to help make a real difference for women in our community. Even small ideas can lead to significant and lasting change.

A grant from last year’s program funded the Beryl Women’s Refuge for two creative projects giving women greater access to information to assist them in making decisions to help them stay safer in their lives. Two booklets were created and the Beryl website was given a complete overhaul. More information can be found by visiting www.beryl.org.au.  For more information about the Program and how to apply visit www.women.act.gov.au or call (02) 6205 0515.
