Young Indigenous leadership on show in Canberra

Released 25/07/2017

Students from across the country have graduated in Canberra from the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre’s (AILC) Certificate II and IV in Indigenous Leadership.

It was a pleasure to attend the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre’s graduation last night.  The AILC’s courses provide students with a wide range of skills aimed at increasing their leadership capacity, enabling them to progress in their careers.

AILC’s courses include:

  • Non-accredited introductory courses in Indigenous leadership and governance;
  • Non-accredited short courses in Indigenous leadership and governance;
  • Certificate II in Indigenous leadership;
  • Certificate IV in Indigenous leadership; and
  • Certificate IV in Business (Governance).

The Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership introduces the key elements of Indigenous leadership in Australia and built on the capacity of emerging Indigenous Australian leaders to lead. Similarly, the Certificate IV builds on existing highly developed leadership skills – further developing these key skills and knowledge.

These skills are important for the Canberra community to recognise the shared vision of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement 2015-18, which outlines a vision of equitable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations developing the opportunities, knowledge and skills to build an empowered, resilient and sustainable future.

The ACT Government’s own Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and scholarships grants demonstrate our commitment to building skills and supporting leaders in our community.

Applications for the current round of grants close on Friday 21 July and for further information is available via the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander portal,  www.strongfamilies.act.gov.au
