Released 25/07/2017

Earlier this week I wrote formally to the SHOUT Board and this morning met with the Chair to confirm our earlier discussions regarding ACT Government support for the organisation and its members.

I am pleased that the SHOUT Board has agreed to work closely and in good faith with the ACT Government with a view to developing a sustainable model for the future. The Government remains committed to supporting and working with SHOUT to achieve this.

It is important to understand that SHOUT is not currently funded by the ACT Government and therefore simply continuing current funding arrangements is not an option.

I have asked SHOUT to work with the Community Services Directorate to develop a shared understanding of the organisation’s financial situation.

I have also asked the CEO of ACTCOSS, Ms Susan Helyar, to facilitate a discussion about the transition process, which I expect to involve third party consultants and/or legal advice. The Government has committed to funding this process.

Future funding arrangements will be informed by the outcomes of this process, but I have assured SHOUT in writing that the Government is committed to working with the organisation and its members to development new support arrangements, including new funding arrangements.
