Group programs begin for 2017 at Child and Family Centres

Released 25/07/2017

Term 1 group programs are underway at the three Child and Family Centres located at Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and West Belconnen.

The Child and Family Centres are the cornerstone of early intervention and prevention services, providing universal and targeted parenting support programs.

Group programs include Learn, Giggle and Grow for parents and children up to five years; Cool Little Kids which provides strategies for parents to help young children with anxiety; the Atfaal Family Playgroup at Gungahlin for Muslim families; and the South Sudanese Group at West Belconnen.

The Growing Healthy Families program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families will continue this year, including the Freshen it Up dietary and nutrition program, which will be run at Narrabundah Koori Preschool, in partnership with Tuggeranong Child and Family Centre.  The Deadly Bubs playgroup will be held at Gungahlin, and the Men’s Art Group at West Belconnen.

Along with the group programs, families are also welcome to drop into the Centres for general parenting advice and information, and to access one-on-one support.

It is a testament to the success that families continue to provide great feedback, with 97% of families in 2015-16 satisfied with the services and assistance they received.
