The membership of a new Advisory Group tasked with helping to plan for a healthy Canberra through the Territory-wide Health Services Framework (TwHSF) was announced today.
The Advisory Group is made up of 11 health experts and community sector members and draws on the experience of a broad range of organisations from the Canberra community. The group will meet regularly over the next 12 to 18 months to provide high-level advice and feedback to the Minister for Health and Wellbeing and ACT Health on the policies and programs that will be part of the TwHSF.
“The Territory-wide Health Services Framework provides a foundation for the ACT Government to ensure we have an innovative and world-class health system for Canberrans as our city continues to grow,” Minister Fitzharris said.
The draft Territory-wide Health Services Framework was announced in September this year.
“The Framework outlines the strategic direction for ACT Health’s delivery of clinical and community-based health services over the next 10 years.
“It guides our vision for the ACT’s health system. A system that has people at the heart of health care delivery, that patients and their families can trust, understand and can easily navigate, and that attracts and retains a high-calibre health workforce. Director-General roadshows are currently underway to inform ACT Health staff of a range of initiatives including the Territory-wide Health Services Framework.
“The Advisory Group will be an important forum for health stakeholders, community organisations and consumers to provide advice on the framework. This will help create the vision we have for innovative and accessible health services here in Canberra.
“The Group will also bring expertise, skills and advice on stakeholder perspectives and engagement as this important health services planning work progresses.
”The members of the Territory-wide Health Services Advisory Group are:
- Associate Professor Nicolas Cherbuin, ANU Research School of Population Health
- Lisa Kelly, CEO of Carers ACT
- Simon Viereck, Executive Officer of Mental Health Community Coalition ACT
- Gaylene Coulton, CEO of Capital Health Network
- Darlene Cox, Executive Director of Health Care Consumers Association
- Scott Clouder, LGBTIQ Ministerial Advisory Council
- Donna Murray, CEO of Indigenous Allied Health Australia
- Professor Gabrielle Cooper, University of Canberra
- Dr Rashmi Sharma, General Practitioner
- Sandra Turner, CEO of Cancer Council ACT
- Dougie Herd, Chair of ACT Disability Reference Group
Clinical expertise will be provided direct to the Advisory Group by including the following senior ACT Health positions as members of the group:
- Chief Medical Officer
- Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer
- Chief Allied Health Officer
In addition to the TwHSF Advisory Group, clinical expertise will be drawn from health professionals across ACT Health by establishing clinical reference groups for each of the medical, nursing and allied health workforces. These three clinical reference groups will report to the ACT Health Director-General on a range of issues across the organisation, including the TwHSF.
