Gungahlin residents will see improved safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Horse Park Drive and Anthony Rolfe Avenue following the completion of the intersection upgrade, Minister for Transport and Municipal Services Meegan Fitzharris announced today.
The intersection upgrade forms part of the ACT Government’s $22.4 million investment to duplicate Horse Park Drive between Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Well Station Drive. A further investment of $57 million has also been announced in the 2016-17 ACT Budget to complete the duplication of Horse Park Drive from the Federal Highway through to Mulligans Flat Road.
“Completion of the Horse Park Drive and Anthony Rolfe Avenue intersection upgrade is a significant milestone,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“The upgraded intersection provides Gungahlin residents, and visitors to the region, with two lanes in each direction for about 100 metres on Horse Parks Drive and left-turn slip lanes on all approaches. Road access into the new suburb of Throsby has also been constructed as part of the intersection upgrade work.
“Work is continuing to duplicate Horse Park Drive between Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Well Station Drive, which also includes the upgrade of Mapleton Avenue and Well Station Drive intersections. The Mapleton Avenue intersection will be signalised to significantly improve safety at this intersection and is expected to be complete by mid-2017.
“The next stage of the Horse Park Drive duplication project, scheduled to commence later this year, will see the road duplicated between the Federal Highway and Well Station Drive and Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Mulligans Flat Road.
“The Katherine Avenue and Mulligans Flat Road intersections will also be signalised to improve safety for residents as part of this project.
“This upgrade will significantly increase traffic capacity on this section of road and reduce the congestion currently experienced in the morning and afternoon peak periods.
“New road infrastructure in Gungahlin, such as the duplication of Horse Park Drive, demonstrates the ACT Government’s commitment to building an integrated transport network, focused on roads, public transport and active travel,” Minister Fitzharris concluded.
The community is reminded to provide feedback on the preliminary designs for stage two duplication of Horse Park Drive. Interested residents can have their say by completing an online feedback form at www.timetotalk.act.gov.au or by completing a hard copy feedback form at the Gungahlin Library.
