Consultation on an Arts Advisory body begins

Released 25/07/2017

Minister for the Arts Gordon Ramsay today announced he is seeking the views of the arts community on a proposal to form a new Ministerial Arts Advisory body to inform the government on arts policy and other related matters.

“The Government recently announced the highest ever level of funding for the arts in Canberra, with a $21.6 million package in the 2017-18 Budget to support Government’s vision for a more vibrant Canberra, with better community facilities and services in the Arts sector. This included a substantial increase in baseline arts project funding,” Minister Ramsay said.

“I know the arts community is looking for more formal ways to have their views heard. It is important to me to hear from artists and others in the arts sector on the best way to achieve this.”

The consultation will take place over six weeks and seek the views of a range of stakeholders, including people from all aspects of the Canberra arts community via an online survey and a series of round table discussions in each town centre to allow a variety of views to be canvassed.

“The consultation will cover a range of issues including the purpose of an advisory body, what it would advise on, how the government would best ensure the advisory body will properly represent all art forms, and most importantly how such a body would best serve both the arts community and the government.

“You can have your say via the online survey or by attending one of several roundtable discussions to be held throughout July,” Minister Ramsay said.

Expressions of interest to attend a roundtable have opened and will close on Wednesday 28 June 2017. Register your interest online.

The online survey will close on Friday 28 July 2017. Following the consultation and feedback received the Minister will consider options on the most appropriate mechanism to best advise on the Arts in Canberra.
