2018 Project Funding and Book of the Year to open for applications

Released 25/07/2017

Minister for the Arts and Community  Events Gordon Ramsay today announced applications for arts projects occurring in 2018, and nominations for the ACT Book of the Year will open on  Monday 26 June 2017.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our arts community to apply for funding for their arts activities.  Every year we support a broad cross section of art forms and activities and I encourage anyone with an exciting proposal for an arts project to apply,” Mr Ramsay said.

“I also encourage local writers who published a book in 2017 to nominate for the Book of the Year Award.”

Project Funding supports the development of artists at all stages of their careers  – applications are open to individuals, groups and arts organisations seeking to develop their artistic skills through project work. Community organisations wishing to undertake projects with a professional artist are also encouraged to apply.

“Historically, project funding has supported some of Canberra’s most innovative local artists and arts organisations to deliver new and exciting arts activities and projects.  I look forward to seeing the variety of arts activities that will take place in 2018.”

“As part of the 2017-18 ACT Budget, the Government recognises the important contribution the arts make to the community and has increased arts funding over the next four years.  This includes setting baseline funding for Project funding at a minimum of $750,000 each year.”

The ACT Book of the Year Award recognises and rewards quality contemporary literary works including fiction, non-fiction and poetry, with a prize money of  $10,000. The Award aims to support the development of local writers and promote writing in the ACT.

“The Government is pleased to support writers through the ACT Book of the Year Award, which encourages and promotes the ACT as an exciting place for literature.”

“An important part of funding is the peer assessment process.  I also encourage local artists and arts workers with specific artform interest and experience, as well as broad industry knowledge, to apply to be peer assessors for ProjectFunding and Book of the Year.”

“We celebrate our diverse and dynamic arts landscape in Canberra – this funding will ensure that our artists and arts organisations are supported to keep producing high quality work, which attracts local and interstate visitors, and encourages engagement with the community.”

“I encourage anyone interested in applying to attend the public Information Session to be held on Tuesday 4 July 2017 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Gorman House Arts Centre.”

Additionally Arts ACT will also facilitate individual 20 minute sessions for applicants from 12 to 2pm at the Ainslie Arts Centre on 11 July 2017, and at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre on 13 July 2017, and at the Belconnen Arts Centre on 17 July 2017.
