ACT Veterans Advisory Council – call for nominations

Released 25/07/2017

Younger veterans were among those today encouraged by Minister for Veterans and Seniors Gordon Ramsay to nominate for the ACT Veterans Advisory Council.

“There are an estimated 20,000 veterans in the ACT and the Veterans Advisory Council is important in ensuring we can properly support them,” Mr Ramsay said.

“One area we are keen to focus on is supporting younger veterans, especially in employment and transitioning to life after service. We are also aware that the families of veterans can also face challenges.

“In order to properly support these and all those in the veterans community we need to have them represented on the Council.”

Applications are invited from individuals and representatives of organisations in the ACT who have:

  • a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of key issues affecting veterans and their families;
  • a demonstrated knowledge of the interests and concerns of veterans in the ACT community;
  • an ability to consult and represent a wide range of views of veterans of the ACT community; and
  • a commitment to participate fully in Council activities (e.g. consultations), in accordance with the Code of Conduct.

Mr Ramsay said the ACT Government was also committed to supporting people from diverse backgrounds and abilities to apply.

“Joining the Council provides you with the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of current and former Australian Defence Force personnel and their families.”
