New members appointed to the ACT Heritage Council

Minister for the Environment and Heritage Mick Gentleman has today announced the ACT Heritage Council will welcome three new council members.

“I am pleased to welcome three new experienced and committed professionals to the ACT Heritage Council. They will join returning members in focusing on heritage in our community over the next three years,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The Council works with the community to identify places and objects of heritage significance in Canberra and to provide advice.

“The new appointees Amanda Evans, Edwin Jans and Gay Williamson bring considerable experience in their respective fields and bolster our already strong Council.”

David Flannery has been reappointed as Chairperson and current member Dr Kenneth Heffernan has been newly appointed as the Deputy Chairperson.

The new Council appointments for a three year term are:

  • Mr David Flannery, Chairperson, expert in architecture (reappointed)
  • Dr Kenneth Heffernan, Deputy Chairperson (new), expert in archaeology (reappointed)
  • Mr Gary Shipp, representative of the Aboriginal community (reappointed)
  • Ms Amanda Evans, expert in landscape architecture (new)
  • Ms Edwina Jans, representative of the community (new)
  • Ms Gay Williamson, representative for the property ownership, management and development sector (new)

Consisting of nine appointees, the council’s continuing members are Mr Douglas Williams, Ms Rachel Jackson and Prof Nicholas Brown.

“I would like to thank each of the outgoing members of the Heritage Council for their significant contribution to our community and for their dedication to heritage conservation in the ACT.

“I particularly wish to thank Dr Dianne Firth who has provided expertise to the Council for many years.

Dr Firth’s commitment and outstanding service is greatly appreciated,” Minister Gentleman said.
