Roundtable confirmed, consultation extended

Released 25/07/2017

A Woden Renewal Roundtable, announced during the most recent sitting week of the Legislative Assembly, will be held in the Woden Town Centre on Thursday 25 May.

Community representatives, business leaders and key stakeholders have been invited to be a part of the Roundtable, which takes place on the same day as an ACT Government community cabinet visit to Woden. Matters for discussion at the Roundtable include residential and commercial opportunities, public and community space, active and public transport, community services and renewal of older buildings.

Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman also confirmed that public consultation for proposed planning changes to Woden and Mawson centres, in the form of the Woden and Mawson Territory Plan variations, would be extended until 2 June 2017.

Planning changes proposed by the Woden variation permit increased levels of residential development along public transport routes and the development of additional community facilities close to the town centre. Changes proposed by the Mawson variation encourage residential development to improve commercial viability of the centre, promoting out-of-hours activity and taking advantage of existing and future public transport along Athllon Drive.

“This extension will allow us to accommodate any feedback on the variations generated by the Woden Renewal Roundtable to be held on 25 May,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The extension to the closing dates will also allow ample opportunity for other members of the community to provide feedback.

“Territory Plan draft variations 344 and 345 propose changes to Woden and Mawson centres in line with the already agreed recommendations of the Woden Town Centre Master Plan and Mawson Group Centre Master Plan,” Minister Gentleman said.

“I look forward to hearing what the community has to say about these variations, because by understanding what's important to the local community we can deliver better planning outcomes like high quality public spaces and built environments that people enjoy using,” Minister Gentleman concluded.

Information on how to comment on Draft Variation 344 (Woden Town Centre) and Draft Variation 345 (Mawson Group Centre) is available on the ACT legislation register and via www.planning.act.gov.au. All comments received will be made publicly available, for at least 15 working days starting 10 working days after the closing date, at EPSDD’s shopfront in Dickson and will be published on EPSDD’s website.
