Take a spring tour of Canberra’s ‘other’ arboretum

Released 03/11/2016

Get in quick for a rare ranger guided tour of Canberra’s little known Bendora Arboretum in the stunning Namadgi National Park.

The free tour will be held at 10.30am on Sunday 6 November 2016 and will be jointly hosted by ACT Parks ranger Brandon Galpin and Friends of ACT Trees member Dr John Turnbull.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to see the arboretum which was established in 1940 and is now the sole surviving sub-alpine arboretum in the region,” Mr Galpin said.

Established to determine suitable softwood species for industry, the site is now home to some of the best examples of mature conifer trees anywhere in the world.

“We are particularly proud to showcase the magnificent spring colours of the deciduous species like Larch and European Limes,” Mr Galpin said.

“The native wildflowers are also stunning and well worth seeing as we walk into the Arboretum, through the native montane and alpine vegetation.”
