Climate change survey to shape ACT policy direction

Released 11/07/2016

A telephone survey will be conducted to provide valuable insight on Canberrans’ views on climate change initiatives and inform future policy, Dorte Ekelund, Environment and Planning Directorate Director-General announced today.

“The survey which will reach up to 1,200 households, is expected to provide information about the value our community places on living in an environmentally conscious city transitioning to a low-carbon economy,” Ms Ekelund said.

“The ACT Government is leading the nation on climate change initiatives and we want Canberrans to help inform future climate change policy.”

The survey, to be conducted by Piazza Research, will provide the government with up-to-date data, following a similar survey in 2013.

“The 2013 results were central to the development of effective greenhouse gas reduction and climate change adaptation policies and programs,” Ms Ekelund said.

“We have set a renewable energy target of 100% by 2020 and have a vision for the ACT becoming a sustainable and carbon neutral city by 2050.

“I would like to thank those residents who choose to participate in the survey. Your views will be valuable in shaping the direction of future climate change policy in the ACT.” The telephone survey is expected to take approximately 10 minutes and participants will be selected at random across all demographics. It is expected results will be available later in the year.
