WorkSafe ACT investigating incident at Thoroughbred Park

WorkSafe ACT is working with ACT Policing as investigations continue into an incident which occurred at Thoroughbred Park yesterday (Tuesday, 28 February 2017) morning.

Work Safety Commissioner Greg Jones said WorkSafe ACT was working in close cooperation with ACT Policing on the circumstances of this incident which saw Riharna Thomson, 22, critically injured following a fall from a horse.

WorkSafe Inspectors had returned to the site today and Mr Jones said they had also appreciated the support of Racing NSW and The Canberra Racing Club as they work to determine the circumstances of this incident.

Mr Jones said that the family had asked that their privacy is respected by media at this difficult time and they are not contacted.

“This is a terribly difficult time for the family, and they have asked that I convey that while they sincerely appreciate the support of the Canberra community and racing industry, they will not be making any comment to media.”
