A key milestone for the duplication of Cotter Road will be reached today with traffic moved onto the completed westbound lanes from McCulloch Street, east of Yarralumla Creek, to east of the Tuggeranong Parkway.
“Reconstruction of the westbound lanes are complete and traffic heading towards Molonglo and Weston will be moved onto this refurbished section of road, which includes the reconstructed bridge over Yarralumla Creek,” said Ben McHugh, Director, Capital Works and Development Support at Transport Canberra and City Services.
“Two westbound lanes of traffic will be available between McCulloch Street and east of the Tuggeranong Parkway until works over the Parkway bridge are completed. Eastbound traffic will continue as a single lane on the new carriageway while resurfacing works are completed in the coming weeks.
“When complete in April 2018 (weather permitting), this upgrade will significantly increase traffic capacity and safety on this section of road and will finalise the duplication of Cotter Road between Adelaide Avenue and John Gorton Drive.”
The Cotter Road duplication project has already reached a number of key milestones including:
- construction of the bridge for the new eastbound carriageway over Yarralumla Creek
- opening of the new eastbound carriageway to traffic
- reconstruction of the old road bridge which now forms the access over this creek for the westbound carriageway
- construction of a three metre wide shared path on the south side of Cotter Road, between the Yarralumla Creek path and the Tuggeranong Parkway.
The ACT Government would like to thank road users for their patience while we deliver this key piece of infrastructure. Roadside signage has been erected to alert road users to the changed traffic arrangements. Motorists should take additional care and follow the signage to ensure they are in the correct lanes.
