With the sun starting to heat up our cool capital, the mowers are warming up to start some spring cleaning of our road verges and other grassed areas in our parks and public spaces.

“The ACT Government mowing season program will launch into full throttle this week,” Director City Presentation, Stephen Alegria said today.

Last year’s mowing season was the second wettest spring on record and the mild temperatures supported optimal grass growth. This season the grass growth has been limited by the very cold and dry weather conditions. While the spring mowing season has been slow to start, mowing has continued throughout winter and the last couple of weeks to keep untidy areas in check.

Mowing not only keeps our city looking great but it is also includes hazard reduction mowing that is an integral part of the ACT’s bushfire preparedness strategy.

To assist in keeping the grass down, Transport Canberra and City Services is replacing aged mowing equipment with new mowers. This year will see the introduction of Trimax wide area mowers and the return of Kubota mowers into the 2017 - 18 mowing fleet to increase flexibility and efficiency

“We place a high level of importance on maintaining grass across the city including our suburbs, parks, roadsides and other urban spaces, not only does it keep our city well-presented it also ensures public safety”, Mr Alegria said.

The annual mowing season program runs until May. For more information or to see the upcoming mowing schedule visit www.tccs.act.gov.au. Residents are reminded they are responsible for mowing the nature strip that adjoins their property.
