Spring into Zumba in the city

Released 09/08/2018

Dance, laugh and get active as lunchtime Zumba in the city begins next week.

Co-ordinated by the Spanish Speakers Association, through the provision of a City Grant, lunchtime Zumba classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday until mid-November.

Carlos Torres, event organiser of Spring into Zumba said, “Being able to provide fourteen weeks of free classes in the city provides us with an ability to share our passion for Zumba and the benefits that accompany it.

“With Zumba, a workout does not feel laborious: it’s a fun, social dance party – with exercise being the biggest perk.

“These classes are open to everyone, from the beginner to the experienced dancer,” Mr Torres said.

City Renewal Authority chief executive Malcolm Snow said the event was an opportunity to enjoy Garema Place in a way the space is not normally used for.

“The city’s public spaces are there for the enjoyment of all of us. Spring into Zumba is a chance to enjoy this part of our city by participating in a free activity open to everyone.

“These classes are just one of 11 City Grants projects that will increase vibrancy in our centre this year.

“Our City Grants program seeks to encourage creativity, innovation and diversity. It also creates an avenue for capacity building within our local community so that recipients are equipped with the know-how to continue hosting high-quality events, activities and installations within our city centre,”

Spring into Zumba classes will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30pm – 1:30pm from 14 August until 20 November. No registration is necessary.

The next round of City Grants will open in September for activities taking place in 2019.

The City Grants are funded through the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy, a fee paid by property owners in the city centre.
