The Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate leads the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) and provides strategic advice and support to the Chief Minister and the Cabinet on policy development, service delivery and whole of government issues, facilitates the implementation of government priorities and provides high level executive support and policy advice.
Role
The Directorate is responsible for:
- the provision of direction and coordination across the ACT Public Service on policy and strategy, managing the ACT's intergovernmental relationships and supporting the Chief Minister's role on the Council of Australian Governments;
- strategic planning and direction on public sector standards, including service-wide employment, workforce culture and capability, industrial relations, learning and development, the implementation of machinery of government changes, and the promotion of ethics and accountability;
- community engagement, whole-of-government communications, provision of public affairs advice and planning and delivery of the Centenary of Canberra; and
- support the Head of Service, the Strategic Board and its sub-committees.

Policy and Cabinet Division

The Policy and Cabinet Division's role includes:
- providing advice and direction across the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) on complex policy matters, incorporating a central agency coordination role in strategic planning; social and economic policy; spatial planning; regional policy and strategy; government information and ICT strategy;
- supporting the Chief Minister as head of the ACT Government and chair of Cabinet, and the Director-General as Secretary of Cabinet, Head of Service, and chair of the ACTPS Strategic Board;
- supporting the Chief Minister and representing the ACT at intergovernmental forums, notably the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) and the Council for the Australian Federation (CAF);
- working co-operatively with individual agencies in the development of key policies, programs, communications and projects to ensure effective and sustainable approaches to implementation of the Government's strategic direction; and
- managing and coordinating the ACT's relationships with other jurisdictions, most significantly with the Commonwealth, NSW, and local councils in the region.

Cabinet & Intergovernmental Relations provides whole of government coordination and secretariat services to the Director-General and the Chief Minister to support Cabinet. They facilitate the passage of Government business in the Legislative Assembly, provides advice and coordination for the ACT's intergovernmental relations and administers a number of associated ACT laws.

The Economic, Regional & Planning Branch's primary role is to provide whole of government policy leadership and advice for the Chief Minister and the Director-General on issues relating to the economic and spatial development of Canberra and its role as a regional centre in south-eastern NSW. The Branch has a leadership role in:
- managing the relationship with NSW under the Regional Management Framework;
- developing land supply policy, including release of Land Supply Strategy; and
- developing telecommunications and broadcasting policy.
Social Policy and Implementation Branch

The Social Policy and Implementation Branch is responsible for the provision of strategic social policy on current and emerging social policy issues and initiatives at the local and national level, providing whole of government advice on promoting improved social outcomes, and undertaking research. The Branch also advises on the implementation of the Canberra Social Plan. The Branch provides across government implementation and related policy advice, in particular on the Canberra Plan Framework and other across government strategy.

The People and Performance Division:
- provides strategic advice to the ACT Government on industrial relations, work safety and workers' compensation;
- supports good governance in the public sector by developing effective policy, legislative and industrial frameworks; provides workforce planning and strategic support to the public sector agencies; and
- provides support to the Head of Service, the Strategic Board and its sub-committees.

The Public Sector Management Branch provides a central agency policy and advisory role for ACT Public Sector employment. Areas of responsibility include:
- service-wide employment;
- industrial relations;
- human resources; and
- accountability and learning and development issues.
Office of Industrial Relations

The Office of Industrial Relations develops policy and legislation over a number of areas that primarily involve a relationship between employers and workers. These include:
- industrial relations;
- work safety, including dangerous substances and asbestos regulation; and
- public holidays and daylight saving.
The Office of Industrial Relations provides support for the ACT's contribution to the national harmonisation of work health and safety. The Branch also provides support for the ACT's participation in the Workplace Relations Ministers' Council along with secretariat support to the ACT Work Safety Council and to the Territory's representatives on the Safe Work Australia Council and its sub-committees.
Continuous Improvement and Workers' Compensation Branch

The Continuous Improvement and Workers' Compensation Branch is responsible for the:
- management of the ACT private sector workers' compensation Scheme (the Scheme) - including policy, legislation and the supervision of the ACT Default Insurance Fund;
- management and prevention of workplace injuries in the ACT Public Sector
- management of the ACT Government accident and incident data repository; and
- development and implementation of the ACTPS workers' compensation and work safety improvement plan.
The Branch also provides support for the ACT's contribution to the national harmonisation workers' compensation laws and to the Territory's representatives on the Safe Work Australia Council and its sub-committees.
Culture and Communications Division

Culture and Communications Division is responsible for directorate and whole-of-government communications, branding and the provision of public affairs advice and planning and coordination of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations in 2013.
The Division coordinates briefs and ministerials for the Chief Minister, advice on protocol, manages hospitality and special events for the Chief Minister, and provides support for members of the Executive and their staff. The Division also provides secretariat services to the Director-General of CMCD for ACT and National Honours and Awards.
