The ACT Information Development Plan (IDP) has been jointly developed by the ACT Regional Office of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the ACT Government and recognises the key role that quality statistics play in informed decision making within governments, business and the community.

The IDP is a high-level strategic framework for providing a whole-of-government approach to improving the development and management of statistical resources in the ACT.  It sets out the key activities needed to better utilise and extend the current range of data in the ACT, broadly covering:

  • improving the visibility of current data and metadata holdings;
  • applying standards and quality frameworks to existing data;
  • improving the capacity within agencies for research and analysis;
  • improving the suite of current ABS statistics for the ACT; and
  • developing capacity to link datasets, where appropriate.

The ABS and ACT Government recognise each other as partners in developing and improving statistical information, and will continue to collaborate in this work. An Information Development Steering Committee, chaired by the ACT Chief Minister’s Department, will progress implementation of the IDP.
