2004 Canberra Social Plan

Building our Community: Canberra Social Plan [icn_pdf PDF 1.4 MB], published in 2004, was the first expression of the ACT Government's vision that all people reach thier potenital, make a contribution and share the benifits of the community.

The Plan includes seven priority areas:

  1. Economic opportunity for all Canberrans
  2. Respect, diversity and human rights
  3. A safe, strong and cohesive community
  4. Improve health and well being
  5. Lead Australian in education, training and lifelong learning
  6. Housing for a future Canberra
  7. Respect and protect the environment

Many of the actions of the 2004 Plan have been completed or substainally implemented.

The ACT Government has reported against the actions and targets of the 2004 Social Plan every two year. The last 2004 Social Plan Progress Report was published in 2009.

The community was also a partner in developing the 2004 Social Plan.
