Feed-in Tariff Discussion Paper

Feed-in Tariff Discussion Paper

On 27 July 2007, the ACT Chief Minister launched Weathering the Change, the ACT Climate Change Strategy 2007-2025 and the first of a series of comprehensive Action Plans. Action Plan 1 2007-2011 identifies a range of measures to tackle climate change, including a proposal for a feed-in tariff for electricity produced by renewable means and supplied by a customer back into the network (Action 18).

The Government released a feed in tariff discussion paper in December 2007. This examined the policy rationale behind the proposed adoption of a feed-in tariff in the ACT, explored some existing international and domestic models, and investigated some of the issues associated with the use of a feed-in tariff.

Written submissions were sought from industry and the community on the proposed model for the purchase of energy produced from renewable sources, and the most appropriate form of feed-in tariff that could be applied for this purpose, in the context of the broad principles of simplicity, efficiency and equity.
