Welcome from the Chief Minister

Welcome to the ACT Government's Open Government website. This website will make information the ACT Government holds readily available to anyone interested in the work of the ACT Government. Over time, we will continue to develop this site and make more government information visible and available.

I am pleased that we will be the first Australian government to make a summary of our Cabinet outcomes available, together with access to Freedom of Information documents the ACT Government releases, and ACT Government datasets.

Central to the Open Government website is that government information that can be made available should be made freely available to everyone. Openness and transparency in government is essential for a robust democracy. Much of the information that you will see on this site is information that has not been available to the public previously. Often this has been for technical or practical reasons; or where it has been difficult to make information available in a useful format, rather than the nature of the information itself.

Of course, there will always be some information that governments will not release. We have a duty to obey the law when it comes to commercial copyright, security concerns and we must not breach the privacy of individuals.

On this website you will also find datasets and information that may be of use to you. You may find the information helpful to find out more about the ACT, more about a specific issue, or to just to stay in touch with what is happening in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The information on this website will assist in the facilitation of collaboration between the ACT Community and government. As we continue to develop our open government agenda we will welcome your feedback and thoughts. I strongly encourage Canberrans to engage with their government through our regular consultation activities and online through the Time to Talk website, Facebook and Twitter.
