The Government Information Office was created in June 2011, following recommendations in the Hawke Report. The role of the GIO is to provide across-government advice and coordination on ICT issues and release of government information. The Government Information Office has a role in helping realise the ACT Government's commitment to Open Government and to support innovation in the use of web 2.0 technologies across the government.
The Government Information Office is part of the Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate and is staffed by a small team. It works in partnership with other ICT areas and draws on expertise from across the ACT Government to deliver projects.
