Notification date: 13 July 2017
Notifying body: Conservator of Flora and Fauna
Legislation: Nature Conservation Act 2014
The Nature Conservation (Sherwood Forest Special Purpose Reserve) Activities Declaration 2017 has been made under Section 256 of the Nature Conservation Act 2014.
An Activities Declaration for a given reserve is made by the Conservator of Flora and Fauna on an individual reserve basis and improves public information of surrounding which activities are allowed or not allowed within individual reserves. An Activities Declaration will indicate which activities are prohibited and which are restricted (i.e. can be undertaken in the reserve under certain circumstances).
Examples of restricted activities includes mountain bike riding on sealed roads and management trails only, equestrian activities on management trails only, and environmental volunteer activities that are to be conducted in accordance with volunteer works programs approved by the Parks and Conservation Service. Examples of prohibited activities include camping, collecting wood and timber, and using motorised vehicles.
The prohibited and restricted activities differ between reserves and an Activities Declaration is therefore made for each reserve. A map of the reserve showing trails related to restricted activities is provided within each Activities Declaration. The Parks and Conservation Service will place new signage reflecting the Activities Declarations in prominent locations in reserves.
