The upcoming ACT Budget will deliver new public schools for new suburbs and expand and upgrade schools across the territory so every young person has a place at a great public school close to home.
The ACT Budget will invest $47 million to build a new P- 6 school in Molonglo, opening in 2021. This will deliver on our 2016 election commitment to cater for families moving into the region.
The new school, to be located in Denman Prospect, will cater for kindergarten to year 6 enrolment of 600 students and 44 fulltime equivalent preschool students, with space for future growth.
High quality learning environments, incorporating both indoor and outdoor learning areas, as well as integrated spaces to support students with specialised needs will be provided at this modern, sustainable facility.
The government will also undertake early planning and feasibility work for a future 7-10 campus that will come online as Molonglo grows.
As it grows capacity in new suburbs, the government is also investing in established schools to maintain the ACT’s world class education system, adding to the investments made in last year’s budget.
The 2018 Budget will deliver $18.8 million to replace buildings at Campbell Primary School with new, modern learning facilities and upgrade aging infrastructure.
Through this budget the government is also kicking off its election commitment to expand Franklin Early Childhood School with transportable buildings to immediately expand the school to accommodate current year 2 students in a new 2019 year 3 class and beyond, and funding to plan and consult on permanent expansion to a full preschool to year 6 school.
The government will also detail funding for further expansion in other growth areas when the budget is announced.
With the 2018 Budget, the ACT Government is growing services for our growing city.
