Contract awarded for the maintenance of public housing properties across Canberra

Released 27/07/2018

The Total Facilities Management contract  to provide maintenance services to approximately 23,000 tenants across 11,800 public and community housing properties, as well as the Narrabundah Long Stay Park in Symonston and Bimberi Youth Justice Centre, has been awarded to Programmed Facility Management for an initial six years commencing on 1 November 2018.

When I initiated this process I emphasised the need for an outcome that does the best by tenants, workers, local businesses and the community with a real focus on social outcomes and value for money. I believe this contract will achieve those things.

The tender process included extensive consultation with tenants, industry and community housing organisations. Feedback from the consultation assisted in the design of the tender specifications to achieve higher quality service, satisfaction and social outcomes for tenants.

The new contract will incorporate an integrated performance management system that encourages Programmed Facility Management to achieve the highest levels of service delivery, tenant engagement and satisfaction, and to meet industrial relations and ethics requirements.

To ensure a strong social outcome and local commitment, Programmed Facility Management will engage with local communities to develop long-term, meaningful and sustainable employment and talent development opportunities for local people, with minimum targets for specific cohorts including public housing tenants themselves, people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Islander people and other people with culturally and linguistically diverse background.

Leading up to the commencement of the new contract, the government will ensure continuity of all maintenance services to public housing tenants and existing levels of service are retained through the establishment of a dedicated transition team. All contact details for repairs and maintenance services for tenants will remain the same, with the Call Centre operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 6207 1500 or through SMS on 0438 100 500.
