Building great communities a key priority for new Suburban Land Agency

Released 20/02/2018

Good governance and community building are priority touch-points for the Suburban Land Agency, as outlined in the Statement of Intent tabled by the Treasurer in the Legislative Assembly today.

The Suburban Land Agency’s first Statement of Intent is a commitment to move forward with the important work of providing more Canberrans with new homes, spaces to build businesses and vibrant communities.

Importantly, the Statement of intent clearly expresses the Government’s strong desire for this work to be delivered whilst placing people at the centre of all they do to ensure they are building healthy, safe, and environmentally sustainable communities where citizens feel connected to their suburbs and their community.

The document reflects upon the land release program being delivered by the Suburban Land Agency which includes more than 2,800 residential sites and over 136,000 square metres of mixed-use, commercial, industrial and community land in its first financial year.

It also describes how the Agency is contributing to meeting our broader objectives for land development in Canberra and how success will be measured moving forward.

The Statement of Intent highlights our commitment to good governance, with a strong emphasis placed on the regular review of systems, processes and outcomes to ensure the Agency’s undertakings align with community expectations.

The Statement of Intent also reflects on the ongoing commitment to the fantastic Mingle program, which connects people in new suburbs to help build vibrant communities. Since July 2017, the Mingle program has hosted more than 20 community focussed events in Moncrieff and the Molonglo Valley, nurturing early community projects which bring new neighbours together.

The Suburban Land Agency is working hard to expand Canberra’s housing supply while fostering the communities which are now calling these developments home.
