$180,000 funding available to advance women’s safety

Released 14/04/2018

Applications are now open for the ACT Women’s Grants Program 2017-2018 providing funding for initiatives aimed at improving the status and lives of women and girls in the ACT, and initiatives that focus on the prevention of violence against women.

Last year, some great projects received grants, including one to produce a documentary film about an ACT women’s AFL team, telling the story of women working and competing as a team, on and off the field.

Other funded projects included one to increase sexual health testing among young women in the ACT; the development of an integrated service which includes legal advice, financial counselling and capacity building targeted to women experiencing severe financial stress as a result of domestic violence; and a pilot program to enhance culturally and linguistically diverse women's safety following separation due to domestic violence.

Projects that are funded through the Women’s Grants Program make a real difference for many girls and women in our community. I would like to strongly encourage Canberra women and community organisations to apply for one of these grants from ideas that you’ve generated through your work in the community.

The ACT Government is committed to achieving gender equity and acknowledges that women’s freedom and their capacity to succeed are still being restricted in Canberra and the nation as a whole.

The ACT Women’s Grants Program provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to help make a real difference for women in our community, helping them to feel safer, more respected and to reach their full potential. Even small ideas can lead to significant and lasting change.

Applications can be submitted online at: http://dhcs.smartygrants.com.au/2017-18_WG
