New Women’s Advisory Council appointed

Eleven Canberra women with rich work and life experiences and a track record of contributing to the ACT community have been appointed to the new 2017-18 Ministerial Advisory Council on Women (MACW).

These appointments will contribute expert advice to Government to inform its work with the community to enhance gender equality and opportunities for Canberra’s women and girls.
The MACW assists the Government to develop and implement policies that improve the status of women and girls in the ACT.

Members of the outgoing MACW have made a major and lasting contribution to the development of the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-26 which sets out the ACT Government’s ongoing commitment to work in partnership across the community to enhance the social inclusion, safety and wellbeing of women.

A new action plan is now being developed and the incoming council will play an integral role
continuing the work of the previous council to drive outcomes through its implementation, to ensure that a positive difference is made to improve the safety, health and wellbeing of women and girls living in the ACT.

The advice of the council will be important in realising key government priorities such as equity and safety over the coming years.

The women appointed to the Ministerial Advisory Council on Women are:

  • Ms Patricia Jones

Members of the Council were selected for their expertise and experience, and represent varied age groups, diverse backgrounds and a wide range of community and occupational expertise. Each member has a strong history of contributing to the ACT community.
