New teachers and education staff welcomed

Released 25/07/2017

Today 270 new teachers and staff were inducted into our ACT public school system.

Teachers make a foundational contribution to each individual in our community. The experience we have at school and the interaction we have with our teachers stays with us for life.

These skilled and dedicated people who commit their energy to making sure that every Canberra child and young person is given the best possible start, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Our teachers are supported by an equally committed team of administrators who make sure that teachers have what they need to teach and children have what they need to learn.

The people joining the Education Directorate today will fill teaching, support and administrative roles in Canberra’s 87 public schools and in the Directorate. Many of our new teachers are recent graduates but we also have the opportunity to welcome teachers who are joining our ACT public schools from other teaching roles.

ACT public schools support so many of Canberra’s children and young people on their path to a good life. As a community we need to acknowledge the contribution of teachers and support staff, and today’s induction provides an excellent opportunity for us to do so.
