ACT Teacher Certification Award Ceremony recognises excellence in teaching

Released 29/11/2017

Tonight, I will present 14 of Canberra’s most highly-regarded teachers with recognition for their dedication to education at the ACT Teacher Certification Award Ceremony.

These 14 teachers have been through a rigorous, multi-stage, peer assessment process to gain Certification as recipients of either Highly Accomplished or Lead Certification

Each teacher’s application was assessed against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, used nationally to provide a consistent professional framework and benchmark for teaching quality.

At the heart of the Future of Education discussion is making sure that every child in the ACT gets the best possible education and start in life. Certification recognises the exemplary practice of teachers working in our classrooms, teachers who not only inspire students to learn and achieve, they also coach and mentor their colleagues to be better teachers.

The work of the Certification assessors has also been acknowledged. The nationally trained assessors, who are practicing school leaders, apply the standards consistently and without bias. These people invest time and dedication to make judgements based on direct evidence of high quality teaching, assessed against the highest levels of the standards. Their work facilitates increasing professionalism among our teachers.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate each of today’s recipients for their continued work to become better at their jobs while helping make Canberra a great place for students to learn and grow.
