Providing a pathway to employment for young people in Belconnen

Released 13/04/2016

Young people in the Belconnen region seeking employment now have access to tailored support, delivered in partnership from government, private industry and the community sector.

The Youth Employment Pathways Hub will provide free one-on-one activities for people aged between 18 and 24, focused on their individual needs and goals.

Activities will include adult literacy and language support; financial management and life-skills development; job readiness; and help to access further education and training or employment services.

For most people, having paid and meaningful work is the key to securing economic and social independence.

However, our young people are facing a range of new challenges that can make getting a job and studying difficult. With the collaboration of community service providers, private sector organisation and government, we are able to overcome a number of these challenges at the local level – in this case Belconnen.

With the expertise provided in the Hub young people in Belconnen will get the support they need to meet these challenges and find meaningful and sustainable employment.

The Hub is open Monday and Wednesday afternoons at the Corner@BCS Youth Centre, 26 Chandler Street, Belconnen.

The Hub delivers on a key commitment under the West Belconnen Local Services Network, responding to the very things that young people themselves told us were important.

I want to thank the Riverview Group for coming on board, and seeing the implementation of this project alongside CIT, the Adult Community Education grants program and Better Services.
