Project Independence opens in Latham

Released 25/07/2017

Today I attended the official opening of the Project Independence site in Latham which offers affordable home ownership for people with intellectual disability.  It was great to be joined by Joy Burch today, she has instrumental in the success of this project since its beginning.

Ten people will become part of the Latham community as these new properties become their homes.

Project Independence offers a new housing model to people who perhaps would not be able to afford to purchase a home.

We know that affordable, secure and appropriate housing is essential for good health, education and employment outcomes.

The ACT Government is working hard to diversify innovative, affordable housing and secure options in Canberra for people with disability.

Initiatives such as Project Independence provide an important and unique opportunity for people with disability to build their economic independence.

Congratulations to the Project Independence Board and the community for their hard work on this collaboration.

The second Project Independence site will be officially launched in Harrison on 13 May 2016.
