2016 Multicultural Festival was the biggest and best in 20 years

Released 25/07/2017

The line-up of performers, food stalls, roving entertainment and give-aways was bigger and better than ever, according to a survey on the 2016 Multicultural Festival.

This year’s event attracted approximately 43,000 interstate and international visitors and brought a total contribution of $12 million to the local economy, this was up from 31,000 visitors and $7.8 million the previous year.

This year’s Spectator Survey indicates that 10,420 people stayed in paid accommodation during the festival spending over $2 million.

The survey determined that 97 per cent of people surveyed were more than likely to attend the event again next year and a whopping 99 per cent expressed that they would recommend the Festival to a friend.

Almost all that were surveyed were either satisfied or very satisfied with the event overall.

The success of a large scale event would not be possible without all of the volunteers and sponsors.  They are true champions who deserve much recognition for their ongoing support, dedication and invaluable help.

The planning has already started to bring Canberra the biggest festival yet in 2017.

Next year Canberra’s premier cultural event and the biggest weekend in town, the annual National Multicultural Festival, will be celebrating their 21st anniversary from 17-19 February 2017.
