Launching Renewable Energy Day

Released 03/12/2016

Today, the ACT will celebrate its commitment to renewable energy and our clean energy future, and Canberra residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Renewable Energy Day and discover the wind and solar technologies that have transformed our region.

“The ACT is leading the country, and is amongst the world leaders, when it comes to investment in renewable energy and action on climate change – and today we are celebrating our clean energy future with Renewable Energy Day, said  Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Shane Rattenbury.
“Our region is home to many different renewable energy technologies ranging from wind and solar to electric vehicles.

“We have some of the biggest and best examples of renewable energy technologies in Australia and on Saturday 3 December 2016, people can visit them all as part of Renewable Energy Day.

“The ACT is on track to achieve our 100% renewable electricity target by 2020, and we are showing what cities, territories and regions can achieve even in the face of the Federal Government’s inaction. Renewable Energy Day is an important occasion to take stock of the important work we have done so far, and look ahead at the renewable energy opportunities of the future.”

“Our city is fast becoming an internationally renowned hub for investment, training and research in renewable energy. Just last week the ACT Government launched the new Renewables Innovation Hub – a collaborative co-working space to bring together innovative start-ups and pioneering organisations in the renewable and clean tech sectors.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to the Regional Development Australia ACT branch who, through the South East Region of Renewable Energy Excellence (SERREE) initiative, have worked with event partners to create the Renewable Energy Trail.

“It's been a collaborative effort to get Renewable Energy Day organised, with the ACT Government, NSW Government, Impact Investment Group, Future Super, the EV Association and ActewAGL all pitching in to help make a great day out for families.

“I encourage anyone interested in renewable energy to get out on Saturday and participate in the tours on offer,” concluded Minister Rattenbury.
