Supporting the next generation of disability leaders

Released 08/08/2018

The ACT Government is supporting the next generation of disability leaders through a range of programs and scholarships to equip them with the skills they need for the future.

I am pleased to announce three leadership development opportunities for Canberra’s new and emerging disability leaders.

The ACT Government recognises the importance of ensuring people with disability can advocate and demonstrate leadership on issues that are critical to their lives. We also know that people with disability demonstrate leadership in and across all areas of community, public and private sector work.

Investing in leadership skills now will have long term benefits for the individuals, the community and Government.

Clare Moore, CEO of Women with Disabilities ACT, will take part in the Future Shapers program. Future Shapers is a world-class 12 month program of development, transformational leadership growth and big picture strategic thinking.

The program will further develop Clare’s existing skills and networks to be a clear and strong voice for all people with disability in the ACT.

I wish Clare all the best and look forward to following her progress into the future.

The other initiatives are the She Leads Diploma of Leadership and Management sponsorship (in partnership with the Office for Women and the YWCA); and The Emerging Leaders program (led by Women with Disability ACT, and in partnership with People with Disability ACT and Advocacy for Inclusion). Further information about these two programs will be announced in due course.

These are important opportunities for new and emerging disability leaders in the ACT to better support the 62,000 people living with disability in the ACT.
