Save the Date for the National Multicultural Festival 2019

Released 18/04/2018

Following the success of the 2018 National Multicultural Festival, planning is already underway for next year’s Festival, to be held from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 February.

The 2018 Festival was a true crowd-pleaser featuring an array of local, national and international performers, food from every corner of the globe and ten cultural showcases.

Results from a survey of 1000 ACT households following this year’s festival show attendance has increased from 17.7 per cent of surveyed households in 2010 to 41 per cent of households in 2018.

Saturday continues to be the festival’s most popular day, with 65.8 per cent of Festival goers heading along that day, compared to 22.5 per cent on Sunday and 28.7 per cent on Friday.

Food, cultural performances and the experience of diversity are what Canberrans love most about the festival.

The proportion of attendees who identify as being from a multicultural or linguistically diverse background has also increased, up from 22.4 per cent in 2010 to 33.2 per cent in 2018.

Survey respondents reported better value for money compared to 2017 (from 37 per cent to 48 per cent) with most people enjoying all the fun of the Festival for less than $50.

This year we saw further improvements across the festival footprint, increasing comfort and accessibility for everyone.

The Festival’s reputation as a family friendly event increased compared to last year, up from 64.6 per cent to 75.9 per cent, and nearly 80 per cent of people either agreed or strongly agreed that they felt safe at the Festival, an increase from 63.4 per cent last year.

I look forward to another resoundingly successful Festival in 2019 and encourage all Canberrans to mark their calendars for 15-17 February.
