Record number of volunteers for 2018 Multicultural Festival

Released 16/02/2018

Two grant programs are now open to enable community organisations to improve their capability and upgrade physical and digital infrastructure. The Participation (Digital Communities) Grants and Community Support and Infrastructure Grants help community organisations become more efficient and effective.

The Participation (Digital Communities) Grants enable community groups to better connect with members, clients, volunteers and the wider community using up-to-date technology. The grants recognise the importance of providing reliable and current information online and harnessing the potential of new technologies, with just over $100,000 available this year.

Past recipients of the Participation (Digital Communities) Grants include the ACT Deafness Resource Centre who redesigned its website to be fully responsive across mobile, tablet and desktop computers; and Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services for the ACT, which provided a digital literacy program for seniors and mature aged workers.

A modern and responsive online presence means community organisations organisations can connect more effectively with our diverse community and Canberrans can more easily find the information they need.

Community organisations can also apply for the Community Support and Infrastructure Grants, with $230,000 available across three categories:

  • community support and capacity, such as partnerships or training;
  • non-fixed infrastructure and equipment, including furniture, storage and work safety equipment; and
  • minor capital works and fixed infrastructure.

Initiatives supported in last year’s Community Support and Infrastructure Grants include accessible kitchen equipment for the ACT Disability, Aged and Carer Advocacy Service (ADACAS), solar panels for the new Gungahlin Mosque, the replacement of air conditioners at Canberra Seniors Centre, safety upgrades for Canberra Dance Theatre and new equipment for the Eclaireurs De Canberra Scout Group.

Both grant programs are now open and close on Monday, 19 March 2018. The online application and grant guidelines are here: http://www.communityservices.act.gov.au/multicultural/programs/grants
