Grants to Celebrate ACT Youth Week 2018

Released 12/03/2018

I am pleased to announce the ACT Government’s support of ACT Youth Week 2018, with $25,000 in grants going towards events around Canberra celebrating young people in our community.

ACT Youth Week is a celebration of young people (aged 12-25 years) across Canberra. This year ACT Youth Week will run from Friday 13 April to Sunday 22 April.

ACT Youth Week lets us celebrate the wonderful contribution make young people to our community while providing a platform for young people to share ideas about the future and advocate on issues they are passionate about.
Projects funded by the 2018 ACT Youth Week Grants include:

  • Black Mountain School’s Youth Arts and Music Festival For All, an event for young artists and musicians of all abilities to showcase their skills and passions. It will involve a 'battle of the bands' for school-aged musicians, performing for an audience of young people.
  • Diversity ACT’s Sharing our Stories, a public workshop for LGBTIQ+ young people and their friends and allies. This is an opportunity for them to hear directly from leading LGBTIQ+ Australians, to build community with other LGBTIQ+ young people and to be affirmed in their identity.
  • Belconnen Community Service’s Expressions, which will provide young people with a platform to showcase their talents and develop their skills in music, drama and art.

I encourage everyone to get involved in ACT Youth Week 2018. This could involve attending a local event celebrating the contribution of young people, or even taking the time to listen to a young Canberran about their passions and the challenges facing their generation.
