Grants to celebrate 2018 International Day of People with Disability

Released 06/08/2018

The annual grants round to support the celebration of the International Day of People with Disability (I-Day) opened today. The I-Day grants provide an opportunity for individuals and organisations to apply for financial support for a program or event for I-Day, which is celebrated on 3 December each year.

The I-Day grants encourage people with disability and the wider community to connect and socialise in a relaxed, inclusive environment and build ongoing connections through dance, sport, art and conversation.

Applicants are required to design and implement a program or event that celebrates and acknowledges the contribution, skills and achievements of people with disability.

Last year’s activities and events included a ‘No Lights No Lycra’ inclusive dance party; an interactive game-based dialogue about disability and health; a Come-and-Try basketball event; a Family Fun Day; and an Art

Exhibition focused on the celebration of all abilities.

I encourage potential applicants to use this opportunity to reflect on the contribution people with disability make to our community, and on what each of us can do in our daily lives to help build a more inclusive Canberra.

Eligible organisations and individuals can apply for one-off grants of up to $5,000. Applications close 14 September 2018 – to apply go to http://www.communityservices.act.gov.au/home/grants
