Consultation on next ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement underway

Released 03/07/2018

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans are encouraged to have their say and get involved in consultation for the next ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement.

The ACT is unique in having an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement, which is signed by the Chief Minister, the Chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body (ATSIEB) and the Head of the ACT Public Service. The current Agreement expires this year and work is underway on shaping the next one.

The Agreement embodies the ACT Government’s commitment to work together to deliver equitable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans, with a clear focus on strong families and connected communities.

The ACT Government and the ATSIEB have begun a series of conversations with the local community on the next agreement and what its priorities should be.

Throughout this process it is important that we hear from as many voices as possible. One easy way to get involved is completing the survey on the ACT Government’s YourSay website.

The closing date for the survey has been extended to Friday 27 July 2018 to give as many people as possible the chance to get involved.

The survey can be completed at: https://www.yoursay.act.gov.au/renewing-agreement
