Canberra Heritage Festival is back for 2018

Released 05/04/2018

The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is back for its 36th year, celebrating the diverse range of cultures and voices that make up our local identity.

As the nation’s capital, Canberra is bursting with stories and rich with cultural heritage.

This year’s Festival theme ‘my culture, my story’, devotes 16 days to the celebration of Aboriginal, non-Indigenous and natural heritage in and around our great city.

Heritage is about so much more than important buildings. It is about people and the stories they can tell. It is about the history of our city—a recognition of where we have come from and where we are going.

More than 130 fun, educational or interactive activities will be on offer in Canberra and the surrounding region that celebrate what makes Canberra special.

You can learn about local bush tucker, go on a Ngunnawal Dreaming tour, explore Canberra’s Cold War history, enter a Regency wonderland, discover the symbolism of Parliament House, sample German beer, step inside a breathtaking Orthodox church, discover your own unique heritage and much more!

In the wider Canberra region you can tour Cliftonwood, a historic farm in Yass, discover the mysterious side to Lake George and learn about the region’s proud industrial history.

The 2018 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival runs from 14 April to 29 April. For more information and to start planning your Festival experience, visit www.act.gov.au/heritagefestival.
