ACT Youth Assembly: Our Voice, Our Impact

Released 22/08/2018

Canberra’s young people will set their priorities and influence the future of our city at the ACT Youth Assembly in September.

Youth delegates will take over the ACT Legislative Assembly chamber on Friday 28 September for a deliberative democracy process. Members of the ACT’s Youth Advisory Council will facilitate the Youth Assembly that will also feature keynote speakers and involvement of elected members of the Legislative Assembly at a plenary session to discuss the recommendations arising from the Youth Assembly.

The Youth Advisory Council has identified four key topics for discussion during the day: civic participation, youth mental health, youth homelessness and equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Young people in Canberra aged 12 to 25 can register to join the Youth Assembly at: https://dhcs.smartygrants.com.au/2018ACTYouthAssembly. Registration closes on the 21 September 2018.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Youth Rachel Stephen-Smith: “I am always impressed to see the great contributions, creativity and imagination of Canberra’s young people. The Youth Assembly is a chance for Canberra’s young people from diverse backgrounds and interests to come together, discuss their ideas, and put forward recommendations to government. It is essential their voices are heard so that we can better understand the challenges they face and the opportunities they see to improve our city.”
