Tuggeranong Child and Family Centre Celebrates Tenth Birthday

Released 25/07/2017

The ACT Government’s Tuggeranong Child and Family Centre this week celebrates ten years of supporting local children and families with community-based services that focus on early childhood development.

The early years in a child’s life set the foundation for their future health, development and learning.  The Child and Family Centre teams provide a supportive environment when engaging and working with children and families of all backgrounds.

Over ten years this Centre has helped thousands of families from Tuggeranong and the surrounding southern suburbs.

The Tuggeranong Centre provides a range of programs such as daily drop-in parenting support through their intake service; more intensive support through their case management programs; a variety of parenting groups that run for up to 8 weeks such as Circle of Security and Cool Little Kids; and various playgroups.

The weekly multicultural playgroup welcomes families with young children from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with other families, meet with Centre staff and get connected to programs and supports.

A number of other agencies also operate from the Centre, including Maternal and Child Health services, Domestic Violence Crisis Service, Belconnen Community Service, Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services, Relationships Australia, Legal Aid, the Child Development Service, OneLink, The Smith Family and Playgroups ACT.

The Centre has a strong relationship with local schools, Koori Preschools and early childhood education and care centres. Through the Growing Healthy Families Program the Centre is a community hub for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.  The success of the Growing Healthy Families programs was recently recognised in the 2017- 2108 ACT Budget with a commitment of $500 000 to continue this great work.

I congratulate and thank Centre staff for their invaluable service to our community over the past ten years, and look forward to many successful years ahead.

In addition to the Tuggeranong Child and Family Centre, the ACT Government operates Child and Family Centres in West Belconnen and Gungahlin.
