Opportunity to meet the candidates ahead of ATSIEB vote

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body Election Meet the Candidates Forum will be held tonight at the Commonwealth Department of Education’s 50MC Theatre, 50 Marcus Clarke Street, Civic.

This year a record 25 candidates are running for seven positions on the Elected Body.  The candidates will be presenting their thoughts and visions on matters of importance for Canberra’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

This is a great opportunity to meet the candidates contesting seats for the fourth term of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body.

The Elected Body is the only body of its kind in Australia, and works with the government of the day to progress the policy agenda for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the ACT.

The Elected Body provides a strong voice for the community as it advocates for the rights, goals and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans.

It plays a major role in government decision-making and in the development and implementation of government policies affecting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

If you identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, are 18 years of age or older, live in the ACT, and are eligible to be on the electoral role, you can to vote in the election when polling is open 1-8 July 2017.
