The ACT Government welcomes yesterday’s announcement by the Federal Minister for Social Services’ on the successful organisations in the NDIS Information Linkage and Capacity Building (ILC) grant process.
The $2.9 million investment brings a new mix of programs that will build the capacity of people with a disability in the ACT, link them with services and help break down barriers to accessing mainstream services.
The ACT is the first jurisdiction to participate in the new ILC funding process, and has received a $1.6 million increase in funding for ILC-type services for 2017‑18, compared with the current transition year.
Activities supported by ILC funding will deliver outcomes for people with a disability, their families and carers.
The full list of successful applicants is attached, and covers a diverse range of activities including:
- Implementation of a peer-to-peer support model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a disability delivered by the First People’s Disability Network;
- Advocacy for Inclusion’s justice orientation process to support people with a disability to better understand and participate in the justice process; and
- Rebus Theatre’s Open Doors Open Minds disability-led workshops for community organisations.
- Marymead’s Autism Centre and Kids Companion Program;
I am pleased that a number of organisations funded through the transition phase will receive ILC funding – including SHOUT, which is being supported to create a virtual platform to bring self-help groups together and provide them with resources to improve their governance, policies and procedures.
Unfortunately, a small number of organisations that received transition funding and applied for ILC grants were not successful in this round. These organisations have access to transitional funding negotiated by the ACT Government through to 31 August 2017.
The Community Services Directorate has been staying in close contact with all of the organisations that received transition funding in 2016‑17 and will continue to work closely with those whose applications were unsuccessful to help them assess their future plans and enable them to make any changes needed.
The ACT Government will support these organisations by providing access to small grants for transition activities. Organisations seeking assistance are invited to contact the Community Services Directorate to talk through the assistance available to them.
