New grants to help young Canberrans InterACT with the community

Released 25/07/2017

The ACT Government has awarded over $24,000 in grants for young Canberrans and the organisation that support them.

As National Youth Week concludes, I am pleased to announce that 19 projects involving young people aged between 12 and 25 have been awarded Youth InterACT Grants.

Recipients will receive up to $1,500 to deliver projects that support young Canberrans to actively contribute to and connect with the community.

This year’s grants were required to incorporate themes highlighted at the Social Inclusion: Thinking All Round Youth Think Tank held in August last year, including:

  • Inclusive environments and places for young people to gather
  • Addressing youthism and discrimination against young people
  • Gender, sexual diversity and inclusivity
  • Cultural cohesion through creating inclusive spaces for all

Projects receiving funding include a youth cooking competition, an event celebrating Pacific Island culture, workshops creating art from recycled materials and a social inclusion initiative for LGBTIQ youth.

The diverse and innovative ideas submitted for this round of Youth InterACT Grants are a testament to the promise and potential of young Canberrans.
