New grants to celebrate Canberra’s youth

Released 25/07/2017

Young Canberrans with ideas for projects, events or activities that focus on social inclusion can now apply for the ACT Government’s Youth InterACT grants.

Grants of up to $1,500 are available for initiatives that will support young people in Canberra.

These grants are part of the ACT Government’s Youth InterACT program, designed to celebrate, empower and give a voice to young people in the ACT.  Other Youth InterACT initiatives include the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards, a regular Scholarships program, and the Youth Advisory Council.

Initiatives that Youth InterACT grants have previously funded include:

  • a youth cooking competition;
  • an event celebrating Pacific Island culture;
  • workshops creating art from recycled materials; and
  • a social inclusion initiative for LGBTIQ youth.

The grants are open to Canberrans aged 12-25 and organisations that support young Canberrans.

Applicants are encouraged to focus on increasing young Canberrans contribution to, and connection with, other groups in the community. Applications will close at midnight on Sunday 3 September 2017.

I would encourage any young Canberran with an interesting submit an application. The grants program is a great opportunity for young people to get recognised for the work they do across the Canberra community and I look forward to seeing and hearing your many ideas.
